Conventional Methods and Information

Conventional methods prefer the utilization of plastic buckets. The plant is in a net-pot and fixed in the middle of the bucket-lid in a way, that the roots dip into the nutrient solution, which is inside the bucket. An air outlet for an aquarium powered by an air-pump, enriches the nutrient solution with oxygen. When a sufficient oxygenation is provided, the plant roots can be submerged for an unlimited amount of time. Starting with the moment when the plants reach the flowering stage, the gauge of the nutrient solution should be lowered gradually, so that the plant roots are more and more exposed to the air.

Herkömmliche Verfahren und Information

Plants are able to absorb considerably more oxygen directly from the air than out of the water. The deep water culture makes it possible for the plant roots not only to absorb big amounts of oxygen but also nutrients simultaneously. This results in a faster growth during the entire plant life.

Recirculation Deep Water Culture
The Recirculation Deep Water Culture (RDWC) method uses a reservoir to supply more buckets with water.

With conventional methods, which work with several buckets, that are not connected with each other, it is necessary to control the pH-value and the conductibility (CF) individually - meaning per bucket. This circumstance lead to technical innovations, which resign the use of air outlets and connect several buckets with each other instead and allow a recirculation of the water. When the water is lead in the bucket again, it bursts and gets enriched with oxygen by the use of spray nozzles. The permanent recirculation enriches the water with oxygen and ensures, that the nutrients are blended effectively and that the pH-value gets stabilized in the entire system. That way, the control of these parameters becomes only necessary at one point: at the container/reservoir.

An air-pump in combination with porous stone enriches the solution extremely with oxygen. This method lets plants grow significantly faster, because the roots receive a bigger amount of oxygen.

Deep water culture systems need sufficient water and oxygen as well as an exactly balanced nutrient solution. With know-how and special literature it is easy to develop a good working concept.
