Gardening in the City
A trend with background and future
URBAN GARDENING – collaborative gardening in the city
Under the headline “proposition for gardening areas“ there are more and more authorities and communities appearing before the public. Like in this case the district exchange ‘Hamburgs Wandsbek’ in September 2013. To be suggested are underused or at least partly not used public areas, which are suited for the cultivation of plants, especially vegetables. The reason for these and similar appeals is a trend, which developed itself especially in the past years under the term ‘urban gardening’.
But how and from what did this trend of community gardening emerge from, what stands behind the name, who can participate in the urban inner-city garden cultivation, what is the purpose of it and what are the positive effects?
