Conservation and Reactivation
An important topic, in combination with environmental protection, is the reactivation of loaded activated carbon and the following reutilization. The reactivation of used carbon is done in a special oven.
The carbon is heated in several phases, up to a temperature of over 1000°C and the thereby discharged (desorbed) toxic substances get burned afterwards. The remaining “clean” (unloaded) carbon can be reactivated almost completely by using water vapor.
Nowadays, many of the used carbon does not have to be disposed of, but it can be thermal reactivated. This procedure preserves the environment sustainable and is, at the same time, cost-saving, since the reactivated carbon is more cost-efficient than comparable new carbon, and thereby economical beneficial.
